Orange lillies in the ditches

This internetis the most wonderful thing to bring us all together. Thank you Sharon. On reading Dee's comments about houses brought to mind one of the things I really like about living in Ohio. It reminds me sometimes of Ireland. Honestly, it is so green and it has a lot of farmland around where we live. When we were very small children we went to stay at a little farm house in Bally-something (Granny could tell you the name of the place easily). There are a lot of Bally's in Ireland. Anyway we were so small then thatthe cows threw shadows across us and scared us to death. But there were pigs nearby and Christina (Soininen) loved the smell of pigs in the air, so we would walk down the lane to "smell the pigs". Anyway, there were lillies growing in the ditches, orange lillies. Well Ohio has those same lillies growing all along the ditches, wild and splashing color all amongst the green of the trees and grass. It is very green in Ohio and it is very misty and wet quite a lot, which is why the ice storms instead of a lot of snow because it rains then freezes. But in spring the mist rises off the fields in the morning and the lillies open to greet the sun and although there are no pigs near my house, for some reason I always remember walking in the lane in Ireland on a misty morning and seeing the lillies flashing their color at me. Right now the lillies are poking their heads above the ground and telling me that the winter has passed and that spring is really underway.
My love goes out to all my family, old and young. By the way General Conference today was awsome with the new prophet,President Monson, who set your Grandfather apart as a patriarch abd who was sustained in a solumn assembly today. History in the making.

thanks di - i love how the sight or smell of something can transport us to another time. i was driving one night, it was raining, and as i sat at a stoplight a city bus turned turned thru the intersection in front of me, and for a split second i was back in adelaide, on a rainy evening, trying to making my way home after a days work at the motor vechile department - i've lost count how many times i ran in the rain to and from adelaide train station, or my bus stop on grenfell street before i got completely soaked!

love you.

Any time you want us to go down memory lane here for you just ask. Amelia lives in Whyalla and could show you what things look like now. And I live not far from Elizabeth or Paynham.
Most people here watch conference at the chapel a week later. i like to watch it at home over the internet. It's not good quality image but the message is still the same.
