Happy Birthday Mum
March seems to be a good month for birthdays in the Smylie family. None more than March 9, 1927. Happy Birthday Mum.
The photo was taken at Georgia and Kent's wedding in March of 2006 but not much has changed.
i thought, instead of bumping this post from it's place of honor, i would just add to it.
these are just a few memories that came to mind as i thought of you today. hope you had a wonderful day.
mum, you were always good for a day off school - all i had to do was say "i don't feel good" and i was usually able to finagle a day off. sometimes you would even suggest i stay home..."lets go shopping - get a bite of lunch together!" those days were always great because you knew you would return home with some piece of memorabilia from the days outing. the best tho, was when family came to stay - those were run on days - you could stretch them into 2, sometimes 3 day sabbaticals from all things academic. and what other mother would ever take their 12 year old daughter out of school for 3 months to give her the opportunity to travel around the world - i thought i had hit the motherload!
you made the best quiche lorraine pie...the best sunday lamb roast...and those deep fried potato quarters were to die for, (no pun intended, now that we know them to be a heart attack waiting to happen!!!). i loved christmas when you would coat the rim of the stemmed glasses with sugar to make them all crystally. not so keen on the brussel sprouts...and the carrot and parsnips disguised as pink potatoes didn't fool anyone! but hey, i know now...a mother's gotta try!
you were the only mother i knew that made being sick for real, not the fake sick, something to look forward to. i remember having the mumps - you folded down the old fold-out sofa, and made up a bed for me in the living room, in front of the telly, i was in heaven...then you went to the store and brought me home new pajamas, some coloring books, and popsicles. i remember taking a hot bath and putting on those cozy new pj's, cuddling back down into my spot on the couch, and feeling so loved, and so much better. to this day a bath and clean sheets does wonders for my frame of mind.
mum i love you...i think of you often...and will endeavour to show that by writing and calling more often...thank you for all you've taught me.

Gee I wish you yanks would catch up - my computer definitely says 4:00 pm on March 9. I remember one time that Dad traveled to the States on some Church business and arrived before he had left.... might be useful, now to think of it.
Yes it was I, or me as the case may be. I am sure some of those "younger" bloggers can correct my English.
I told mum of the blog here but not game to tell her I posted this one.
